More and more devices are showing up that track your vital signs, calories burned, etc. etc. As we’ve been predicting, personal informatics is gaining ground in the popular culture as a means of staying healthy. This is a subset of the move toward preventative care, which will become more and more important as the costs of our current healthcare system continue to get out of hand. As we’ve been saying for awhile now, the biggest bang for the buck in reducing health care costs will be in preventing illness and disease in the first place. It’s good to see that that idea is gaining ground. Thoughtful medical industrial design will be important for devices that encourage preventative care.
