Scientific wellness is a term that Dr. Leroy Hood uses to describe where he thinks the future of health care lies. Dr. Hood is President and Co-Founder of the Institute for Systems Biology, an organization that is on the leading edge of looking at ways of combining large sets of personal health data, genomic indicators and environmental data in order to be proactive in staving off disease.
Dr. Hood believes that by viewing human health as a product of interrelated systems, we will be able to discover not just the markers that indicate the initial onset of disease, but also the aberrations from normal physiology that can predict the potential for disease onset before it even occurs.
The consequences of the scientific wellness model are far reaching. It has the potential to radically change today’s health care paradigm, moving it from a system that is reactive to one that is proactive. True health care as opposed to disease care.
